Our Authentic Montessori Program

Shooting Stars Montessori Overview

We offer a foundational authentic Montessori Program augmented by life and nature enrichment programs for all age groups.

Shooting Stars has one classroom for every age group and one preschool room for each mixed-age grouping: 0-1, 1-2, 2-3, and a preschool room for 3-5-year-olds. Each classroom is guided by a North American Montessori Center (NAMC)-certified teacher and assistant teacher.

Shooting Stars’ authentic Montessori program is a child-centered educational approach that fosters independence, curiosity, and a love of learning. Children choose activities that interest them in a prepared environment with hands-on materials, progressing at their own pace. Mixed-age classrooms promote peer learning, while teachers act as guides, providing individualized support. The focus is on practical life skills, sensory experiences, and self-directed learning across subjects, nurturing intrinsic motivation and respect for self, others, and the environment.

Authentic Montessori Distinct Learning Areas at Shooting Stars

The Montessori approach, much like any science, has its own set of vocabulary and terminology.

All Shooting Star curriculum includes five distinct areas: practical life, sensorial, math, language, and cultural studies.

Children working on Practical Activities

Practical Life

Practical Life in Montessori is a purposeful activity, which develops motor control and coordination, develops independence, concentration, and a sense of responsibility. The exercises in practical life cover two main areas of development: care for self and care for the environment.

Sensorial learning

Sensorial learning is a teaching approach that stimulates the child’s five senses: taste, touch, smell, sight, and hearing. This allows children to use their senses to explore and understand the world around them.

Language Development

Language development is designed primarily to teach children the intricacies of written and spoken language. A firm grasp of writing and speaking will allow students to progress with their learning. Students use language materials to explore letters, sounds, handwriting, and eventually spelling and writing.

Mathematics

Mathematics materials help develop the child’s innate “mathematical mind” as he manipulates concrete materials, which isolate a specific concept in preparation for later abstract work. The materials lay the foundation for arithmetic, algebra, and geometry.

Cultural Studies

Cultural Studies expose children to different people and their cultures. The cultural area is divided into geography, history, nature, and science. These lessons include how people have adapted to different climates, their homes, clothing, food, and customs. Through continent and cultural studies, children learn about the interconnectedness of all life on earth.

Fostering Early Growth in a Caring, Safe Environment

At Shooting Stars Montessori, we recognize the importance of the first year of life in a child’s development. Our Infant Room offers a nurturing, secure space where your baby can develop at their own pace. Guided by NAMC-certified teachers, our program is designed to build trust and provide individualized care for each child.

  • Practical Life: Infants are gently introduced to daily routines that support their growth, such as feeding, diapering, and sleeping. Activities like grasping a toy or holding a bottle help develop motor skills and foster independence.
  • Sensorial Learning: The Infant Room is rich in sensory experiences, offering soft textures, gentle music, and engaging visuals to stimulate your baby’s developing senses.
  • Language Development: Through talking, singing, and reading, our teachers engage with infants, laying the foundation for early language development and communication.
  • Mathematics: Infants begin to explore basic concepts like size and shape through tactile materials, which encourage curiosity and cognitive development.
  • Cultural Studies: Visual and auditory stimuli introduce infants to the broader world, sparking an early interest in the diversity of people and environments.
